Pure Evil
During the 1990 Christmas holidays, the mood among Toronto residents was tempered by the knowledge that 12 women had been raped there over three years, with the culprit still at large. Still, a pair of sisters, Karla and Tammy Homolka, found time to celebrate Karla's engagement to Paul Bernardo (seen left with Karla Homolka) at the Homolka family home.

Before the night was over, however, 15-year-old Tammy was dead, the apparent victim of excessive drinking that led to her choking on her own vomit. The next year, Paul married Karla, the Toronto rapes turned into murders, and police started focusing their attention on Paul, who had become a suspect when a surviving victim described her assailant as someone who looked like the handsome blond man. After a positive DNA test linked Paul to the murders, Karla came forward with a twisted story of abuse that solved several crimes - including the death of her sister. Citizens were relieved, but couldn't help but ponder: was justice really served in this case?
