The Roy Kirk Case
Caught in the act of dismembering a woman he just had murdered, a man named Roy Kirk was handcuffed, shackled and placed inside a police van for transport to a station five miles away. When the police arrived and opened the van, they found Kirk hanging from his belt, dead (seen right).

To counter suspicions that the police had killed Kirk, a criminalist approximately the same size as Kirk was handcuffed, shackled and placed in the back of the same police van (seen left and below).

He then demonstrated how he was able to carefully remove his belt and create a makeshift noose with it -- while still handcuffed. He then attached the belt to the bars inside the wagon, slipped his head through the noose and fell forward. By these means, Kirk was able to strangle himself within just five minutes. As a result of this demonstration, the police were exonerated.
