A Bad Impression
In December of 1976, police responding to an anonymous phone call went to the apartment of a pimp named Walter Childs. When they arrived, they found Childs on his bed -- shot once in the head and stabbed several times (pictured right).

Police suspected two prostitutes - Particia Beibe and Elizabeth Maltz. But when brought in, the women denied having anything to do with the murder. No prints or other evidence were found, except for a freshly chewed wad of gum left on a nearby dresser.

The gum was brought to forensic dentist, Dr. Norman Sperber, who made a mold of it (seen right). He then took dental impressions from the victim, as well as the two suspects. Incredibly, the impression from the gum fit perfectly with one of Patricia Beibe's teeth.

Although she later confessed to the crime, why she left the gum is anyone's guess.
