The Missing Cowboy
When a dismembered corpse was found in Texas in 1996, officials determined it was 27-year-old Casey Elliott, a rodeo cowboy. Upon examination, the corpse was found to contain lethal levels of morphine. Elliott had been living with a widowed 41-year-old mother of three, Helen Moore (pictured). Though she seemed an unlikely suspect, blood, paint chips and cactus needles found at the crime scene matched those found in her truck and trailer.

Even more incriminating, investigators found bottles of morphine prescribed to Moore's husband -- the same morphine she used to poison Casey Elliott. A grand jury indicted Moore, alleging she had killed Elliott for a $190,000 life insurance policy. Moore pleaded guilty to avoid a death sentence, though she maintains she didn't kill for money.

Cactus needles discovered in the abdomen of Casey Elliott's torso (above left) were later matched to identical needles found in the tires of Helen Moore's truck (seen right).
