Ron Settles
Once a star running back from Southern Cal, Settles was jailed in LA following an altercation over a speeding ticket. Shortly thereafter he was found hanging dead in his cell.
Originally ruled a suicide, the decision was reversed in court following the testimony of Dr. Baden, who determined there was no evidence that Settles had died from hanging, but was most likely killed by a choke hold (see neck injuries above). Though the family was awarded $1 million, no officer was ever brought to trial.
