The Tinning Deaths
One of Dr. Baden's most sensational cases involved Mary Beth Tinning (pictured), whose nine children all died over the course of 14 years. Syndrome autopsies performed on each child cited the cause of death as "sudden infant death" or a "death gene," but Baden was suspicious, especially after learning that an adopted 2-1/2-year-old had also died. Supported by Baden's opinions, police confronted Mary Beth -- and she confessed to killing three of her nine children.
