LaToya Thomas
In a rare case in which a death certificate was changed from "homicide" to "undetermined causes," Dr. Baden proved that 13-year-old LaToya, accused of strangling her mother, couldn't have committed the crime. Upon examination of her medical records, Baden learned that Muriel Thomas had a history of convulsions, and that she'd stopped taking medication after learning she was pregnant. This resulted in massive convulsions and death that on the surface looked like homicide.

After examining Muriel Thomas (above), Dr. Baden did not see indications of strangulation. Her medical report (right) reveals the true cause of death, which was seizure disorder.
