| A 14th-century peasant puts a lance through the class system in this entertaining tale with a contemporary touch. Written and directed by Oscar(R)-winning screenwriter Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential), the film stars Heath Ledger (The Patriot) as William Thatcher, a young squire whose desire to change his fate leads him to pose as a knight in order to join the nobles-only sport of jousting. With the help of his faithful pals and a gambling-addicted Geoffrey Chaucer (Paul Bettany), William becomes a jousting champion, but he must also deal with two greater challenges: a mean Count who has it out for William and a lovely lady who has it in for him!
